Holiday spot: Cattolica, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Catolica is a charming seaside town that offers a perfect blend of relaxation, cultural experiences, and vibrant local life. While it may not be as famous as its neighboring destinations, such as Rimini or San Marino, Catolica is a fantastic holiday spot for those looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in authentic Italian culture.

Cattolica, the Queen of the Adriatic, in ancient times was a place of transit and stopover for wayfarers travelling along the Via Flaminia, is located where Romagna gives way to the hills of the Marches, immersed in a delicate landscape and characterized by genuine, authentic hospitality.

Catolica boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. With soft golden sands and blue waters, it’s an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, and beach sports. Families will appreciate the gently sloping shores, which are safe for children, while beach clubs offer sun loungers, umbrellas, and refreshments.

The town exudes a relaxed vibe, perfect for leisurely strolls along the promenade or through its quaint streets. Enjoy the colorful architecture, charming shops, and inviting cafés that line the pathways. The evening ambiance comes alive with outdoor dining, where you can savor fresh seafood and local delicacies.

Catolica is a fantastic destination for families. The town features parks, playgrounds, and family-friendly attractions like the Aquafan water park and Oltremare, an eco-friendly theme park with animal shows and rides. It is also my most visited place in Italy. And I always stay at the charming Hotel Manzoni.

Holiday spot: Menton, Côte d'Azur, France

Nestled on the sun-kissed coast of the French Riviera, just a stone's throw away from the Italian border, lies the enchanting town of Menton. Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, Nice and Monaco, Menton is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of French and Italian cultures, stunning landscapes, and a rich history that beckons travelers seeking a more serene Riviera experience.

Menton's history is as vibrant and colorful as its world-renowned gardens. First mentioned in the 13th century, the town has been under the influence of various rulers, including the Genoese, the Grimaldis of Monaco, and eventually France. This diverse cultural heritage is reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and local traditions.

Nestled in the northern tip of the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia lies the picturesque village of Fiskardo. Many of these establishments are housed in restored historical buildings, providing a unique blend of modern comfort and historical charm.

Fiskardo is accessible by car, with the drive from Kefalonia's capital, Argostoli, taking around 1.5 hours. The scenic route offers breathtaking views of the island’s rugged coastline and lush interior.

As you descend the winding road that leads to Myrtos Beach, you'll be greeted by a breathtaking panorama of azure waters stretching as far as the eye can see. The contrast between the deep blue sea and the bright white pebbles creates a mesmerizing sight that seems almost surreal. Towering limestone cliffs envelop the beach, adding a sense of grandeur to its already stunning beauty.
